Battling acne and skin breakouts

Acne is known to affect more than 600 million people worldwide, making it the eighth most common global disease.

As well as the physical effects – which include blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and possible scarring – acne has huge psychological and emotional effects on sufferers.

Which is why the scientists behind Beaute Pacifique developed a range of dermatologically-tested products which both fight and prevent the symptoms of this life-altering condition.

Who gets acne?

It is one of the most common skin conditions in the world.

According to the NHS, an estimated 80% of people between the ages of 11 and 30 will have suffered it at some point.

Adult cases reported in the past year have risen by 200%.

Around half of all adults will experience acne – and more than 80% of those will be women.

Acne normally occurs during teenage years, due to fluctuations in hormones. But it’s possible to get the condition for the first time as an adult.

What is the cause?

Acne is caused by excess sebum. This produces oil, which mixes with things like the hairs or dirt on your skin. Pores then become clogged.

Bacteria gets trapped inside the pores and multiplies. This causes swelling and redness — which is the start of acne.

A range of factors contribute to clogged pores and leads to breakouts – like pollution, cosmetics, smoking, some medications, and even regularly wearing things that put pressure on the skin (such as a headband).

Why me – and not my friends?

A lot of it comes down to good old hormones. They fluctuate during menstruation, while pregnant or if we suffer from conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome.

Acne can also be genetic, so if your parents suffered, the likelihood of you getting it too is high.

While the NHS advises there’s no evidence that diet plays a role, many people find links between this skin condition and their gut health, particularly when they consume dairy.

How can I treat/prevent breakouts?

Beaute Pacifique has produced a range which will cleanse, treat and then hydrate the skin – as well as a Clinical Range for those who need a more powerful weapon against acne.

We recommend:

Cleansing Foam to remove excess oil and clear clogged pores, followed by Defy Damage as a morning treatment to flood the complexion with breakout-busting Vitamin A.

Oil-free Moisturiser then hydrates without adding oil.

Deep Pore Cleansing Mask twice a week, binds and removes excess oily residue.

But for those who need to pack a more powerful punch, we have a Clinical Range which has proven itself to produce amazing results.

This includes:

  • Clinical Super 3 Exfoliator – potent product when used twice weekly will biologically exfoliate skin, open clogged pores and reduce inflammation in impure skin. Making the skin appear smoother
  • Clinical Super 3 Booster – a very strong yet tolerable Vitamin A crème. Used as a night crème, it reduces and stabilises excessive oil production while repairing skin
